Germanium diode substitute. Its silicon like 1n4148 and much the same. There is no exact substitute for a germanium diode except another germanium diode. Some of there data sheets even say germanium in the header but state silicon in the data area.

Radio shack germanium diode package of 10 or 15 is the exact substitute. Some places are selling silicon diodes as a substitute or equivalent replacement with the 1n60 number as germanium. I have pretty much everything required but do not own any germanium diodes i have been looking for them in the uk but many places do not stock them anymore and the diodes on ebay such as 1n60ps are disputed as being shottky diodes and those that arent are quite expensive and only have 2nd class delivery and i am not a patient man.

However if the only concern is to get a lower forward voltage drop than that of a silicon diode 07v then a schottky barrier diode may be a suitable replacement as its forward voltage drop 01v is even lower than that of a germanium diode 02v. Searching ebay for germanium diode gives a lot of 1n34a which in most cases are also ok replacement but the 1n60 is maybe better voltage rating and speed shortwave. The package usually has 1n270s in it.
